Cisapride is a prokinetic medicine that is used to treat heartburn (particularl
y night time heartburn), diabetic gastroparesis, delayed gastric emptying, indigestion, and gastric ulcer. It is also used to treat inflamed oesophagus.
Uses of Cisapride
- To treat heartburn due to gastroesophageal reflux disease
- To treat stomach problem associated with diabetes (diabetic gastroparesis)
- To treat indigestion and gastric ulcer

- History of prolonged QT syndrome
- Family history of cardiac arrhythmia

How Does It Work?
Cisapride acts by increasing movement of food inside the stomach and the intestine during the process of digestion. It also works by increasing the rate at which the stomach empties its content into the small intestine. It releases more acetylcholine into the stomach and increases the pressure in the pyloric sphincter (the muscle that is present between your stomach and your small intestine), thereby increasing the gastric emptying time....
