When PharmEasy labs examine your test, it would look for ANA in your blood. ANAs are a type of antibody called an autoantibody.  Antibodies are produced by the immune system and the case is not any different with ANAs either. When you test for ANAs, it will help diagnose and determine the type of autoimmune disorder affecting you. The purpose here is to detect, measure, and evaluate ANA in your blood sample. The doctor will recommend this test only if you have symptoms of an autoimmune disorder.  

ANA attacks the nucleus of healthy cells, thus called "antinuclear." As you know, the nucleus plays an important role in your body as it sends signals which trigger important cell functions. To fight body infections, the immune system produces many antibodies. There are times when these antibodies wrongly identify normal proteins as foreign proteins. In case ANAs identify normal proteins in a cell’s nucleus as foreign, it will be harmful to your body as it may lead to a process of inflammation in which the body begins to attack itself. The level of ANAs increases with age. If you're more than 65 years of age, there are high chance that you test positive for ANAs.
