Floatin 20 belongs to a class of medicines used for the treatment of depression, panic disorder (a disorder in which a person becomes extremely fearful and anxious), obsessive-compulsive disorder (a

disorder in which a person has an uncontrollable need to perform certain tasks) Floatin 20 contains Fluoxetine as an active ingredient. Fluoxetin belongs to a group of medicines known as SSRIs (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) Depression is a serious medical condition that negatively affects how you feel, how you think and act. It leads to various emotional and physical problems, which hamper your ability to work. The Floatin 20 dose is decided by your doctor as per your condition. A smaller dose might be added at the beginning, which can be increased later on. Don't stop the course on your own as it has to be taken for the required duration. You might not feel better initially, but do not stop using it.

As per CDSCO, use of Floatin 20 includes the treatment of depression, treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder and management of panic disorders.

Contraindications of Floatin 20 MG

If you are allergic to its active ingredient.
If you have suicidal tendencies.
If you have a severe liver disorder.
If you have compromised kidney function.
If you are on monoamine oxidase inhibitors (a type of antidepressant), it can increase serotonin levels leading to a syndrome called serotonin syndrome, which is a life-threatening condition.

Directions for Use of Floatin 20 MG

Use Floatin 20 as per the advice of your doctor.
Floatin 20 comes as a tablet. Have it as a whole without breaking or chewing.
Have it with a glass of water.
Take it for the prescribed duration as per the advice of the doctor.
Try to have it at a fixed time of a day.
It can be taken with or without food.
Do not decrease or increase the dose on your own.
Do not stop it abruptly; consult your doctor.
Try to take it during the day as it can disturb your sleep at night.
Do not use the medicine if its packaging is damaged.
Do not use it after the date of expiry.

Interactions with other medicines

The interaction of Floatin 20 with linezolid (an antibiotic) tends to increase serotonin to lethal levels.
The Floatin 20 interaction with antiplatelet medicines, like clopidogrel, can prevent the latter from getting converted into its active form and hence it will not act at all.
The interaction of Floatin 20 with moclobemide (monoamine oxidase inhibitor, an antidepressant) can increase serotonin to lethal levels.
Interaction of Floatin 20 with carbamazepine (a type of anti-seizure medicine) can cause the blood levels of later to shoot, thereby leading to its toxicity.
