ESR stands for erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Erythrocytes are red blood cells. This test looks at how quickly the red blood cells sink to the bottom of the test tube. Inflammation is the response of the immune system to injury, infection, and many other health conditions. Inflammation causes red blood cells to stick together forming clumps which deposit easily. The rate of sedimentation indicates the intensity of the inflammation. The higher the ESR number, the higher the severity of the inflammation. This test will need a small volume of your blood which will be expertly drawn from the vein of your arm by a phlebotomist from PharmEasy Labs.
