Glucose or sugar is the primary source of energy. Sugar is a carbohydrate that occurs naturally in many foods, such as fruits and vegetables. The body processes the carbohydrates of the food and turns much of it into glucose for energy and healthy functioning of the body.  Insulin is the hormone produced by the pancreas that regulates the sugar levels in the bloodstream. Insulin allows the glucose to enter the cells of the body. Insulin also helps the body to store the sugar for future use. As cells continue to take up glucose, the levels of glucose and insulin in the bloodstream decrease.
