By Nishkak +2 more

Introduction

Did you know that 1 in every 12 Indians is living with diabetes, the second highest in the world? With increasing life expectancy and lifestyle changes, diabetes has become common. The chances that we may all know at least someone in our social circle who’s living with diabetes is high. Unfortunately, yes.

PharmEasy conducted a survey amongst its regular chronic customers who purchased diabetes medicines and booked diabetes-related health checkups. Here’s what we found out.

Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) is an important part of diabetes care, as it provides timely and reliable estimates of blood sugar, surveys have found that diabetic often ignore regular follow-ups and end up continuing the same medicines for years without monitoring their blood sugar levels.

Dr. Ashish Bajaj – M.B.B.S, M.D.

Conclusion

As of 2022, 55% of men and 65% of women currently aged 20 years in India are likely to develop diabetes in their lifetime. And, it’s believed that as the world progresses and grows, the number of people surviving with chronic conditions like diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure will also increase. While it may seem to be a long-drawn battle, victory may just be a few lifestyle alterations away.
