About Vibact

Vibact DS capsule is used to treat and prevent diarrhoea caused by antibiotic use. It restores the normal microbial flora of the intestine and is used as supportive therapy to improve digestive tract function and manage illnesses such as gastroenteritis and colitis. It also treats rotavirus-induced diarrhoea in infants and children. The capsule contains four beneficial bacteria: Streptococcus faecalis, Clostridium butyricum, Bacillus mesenteric, and Lactobacillus sporogenes.

  • Vibact DS capsule is a probiotic and prebiotic preparation. It helps restore the normal bacterial flora of the intestine, manage diarrhoea and improve digestive functions such as digestion and absorption.
  • Vibact DS capsule strains of 4 beneficial bacteria: Streptococcus faecalis, Clostridium butyricum, Bacillus mesenteric, and Lactobacillus sporogenes.
  • Streptococcus faecalis helps normalise the healthy bacterial flora of the gut, improving immunity and preventing the occurrence of diarrhoea. It is also helpful in certain inflammatory diseases of bowel and lactose intolerance.
  • Clostridium butyricum acts as a probiotic. It yields fatty acid chains of butyric and acetic acid upon multiplication and helps restore the pH of the intestine.
  • Bacillus mesenteric promotes good bacteria growth and inhibits harmful bacteria's growth. It also reduces the secretion of a chemical enterotoxin, which can induce diarrhoea.
  • Lactobacillus sporogenes produces lactic acid in the digestive tract and makes the environment of the intestine unfavourable for the growth of harmful bacteria. It also helps in restoring microbial balance after antibiotic therapy.

Prednisolone

The steroid Prednisolone damps down the immune response that keeps the live cultures in Vibact DS capsule contained in your gut. At higher doses or over long courses this raises the small but real risk of those bacteria causing an infection.

Ciclosporin

Moderate

Ciclosporin damps down the immune defences that normally keep the live bacteria in Vibact DS capsule shut inside your gut. In that weakened state those bacteria can occasionally slip into your bloodstream and cause a genuine infection.

Chloramphenicol

Moderate

Chloramphenicol jams the machinery bacteria use to grow, which stops the live cultures in Vibact DS capsule multiplying just as effectively as it stops the bacteria causing your infection. The benefit of the probiotic is lost if the doses land together.

Ciprofloxacin

Moderate

Ciprofloxacin kills a wide range of gut bacteria, including the live cultures Vibact DS capsule is designed to deliver. If you take the two together the good bacteria are killed off before they can settle in your gut and do their job.

Doxycycline

Moderate

Doxycycline is a broad antibiotic that kills bacteria without telling harmful ones apart from the helpful live cultures in Vibact DS capsule. Taken at the same time, those good bacteria are wiped out before they ever reach your gut and the capsule does nothing.

Food interactions

Vibact DS must be taken with food to avoid upset stomach. There are no known significant food interactions with Vibact DS.
