As we have already discussed, PharmEasy Labs will analyse the widal test to detect Typhoid and Paratyphoid fever in one's body. This fever is considered to be quite fatal and can affect your entire body. The test will be used to detect antibodies which are produced by your immune system to fight against bacteria. The incubation period for this fever is somewhere between 1 to 4 weeks. It will generally have a gradual onset as the initial phase would cause increasing feelings of fatigue in your body. It is only by the 5th or 6th day, that your body will show signs of an actual fever.

You should be performing the widal test with the slide method only after a week since suffering from the fever. It is because the antibodies against “O” and “H” antigens of Salmonella start showing in serum only at the end of the first week of the fever. You should go for a couple of blood tests between 7 to 10 days of the fever to know the exact concern. In case your test results show less than or equal to 1:20 and 1:40 titre, it means that you have tested negative. But if your test results show more than 1:160 titre, you're tested positive for typhoid or parathyroid fever.

The purpose behind going for this test is to see if certain symptoms are leading to Typhoid fever or not. In case your body is showing the following symptoms, it's a clear sign that you need to take a Widal test with the slide method:

• High fever that is up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit
• Headaches, abdominal pain, constipation, and perhaps diarrhoea later
• Loss of appetite and weakness
• Small red spots over the abdomen or on the chest
• Fatigue
• Chills
• Body pains
• Not able to pay attention
• Blood in the stools
• Agitation, confusion, and hallucinations

During the Widal Test

It's going to be like any other blood test. A blood sample will be taken by an experienced phlebotomist, who will carry the sample to PharmEasy labs.
