Know More About The Package
Overview
The Jaanch Diabetes Screening Package is a health check-up package designed to screen for diabetes, identify individuals at risk of developing the condition, and assess important health parameters commonly affected by persistently high blood sugar levels. Diabetes is a condition in which blood sugar levels remain higher than normal because the body does not produce enough insulin or cannot use it effectively. Over time, high blood sugar can damage the kidneys, nerves, eyes, and blood vessels, and is often associated with unhealthy cholesterol levels that increase the risk of heart disease. Since diabetes often develops gradually and may not cause symptoms in its early stages, early detection allows timely lifestyle changes and treatment to help delay or reduce the risk of complications.
This package contains 13 tests that evaluate current and long-term blood sugar control, cholesterol levels, and kidney function. Together, these tests help identify prediabetes or diabetes, assess cardiovascular risk, and detect early changes in kidney health. It may be recommended for individuals experiencing symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, blurred vision, or slow-healing wounds. It is also suitable for people with risk factors such as overweight or obesity, a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels, physical inactivity, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), or a history of gestational diabetes.
The package requires a blood sample, which will be collected from your home by a trained phlebotomist. An overnight fast of 8 to 12 hours is recommended, as some tests are best performed in the fasting state. Your doctor will interpret the results alongside your symptoms and medical history to assess your diabetes risk and recommend appropriate treatment, lifestyle modifications, or further evaluation, if needed.

Who Should Book the Jaanch Diabetes Screening Package?
The Jaanch Diabetes Screening Package may be suitable for:
- Adults aged 35 years and above, particularly those who have never been screened for diabetes or have not had their blood sugar checked recently.
- Individuals experiencing symptoms such as increased thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, unexplained weight loss, fatigue, blurred vision, or slow-healing wounds.
- People with a family history of diabetes, particularly in a parent or sibling.
- Individuals with high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels, or cardiovascular disease, as these conditions commonly occur alongside diabetes.
- People with a sedentary lifestyle or unhealthy dietary habits that increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
- Individuals who are overweight or obese, especially if they also have risk factors such as high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels, physical inactivity, or a family history of diabetes.
- Women with a history of gestational diabetes or polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), as they have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
- People previously diagnosed with prediabetes, to monitor blood sugar levels and assess the effectiveness of lifestyle modifications.
- Individuals advised by their doctor to undergo diabetes screening based on their age, medical history, or other risk factors.
What Does This Package Detect?
The Jaanch Diabetes Screening Package can help detect:
- Prediabetes, where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
- Diabetes, by assessing current and long-term blood sugar levels.
- Abnormal cholesterol levels (dyslipidaemia), which commonly occur in people with diabetes and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke.
- Early changes in kidney function, which may occur due to diabetes or other kidney conditions.
- Poor long-term blood sugar control, which may indicate an increased risk of developing diabetes-related complications if left unmanaged.
Note: The results should always be interpreted by your doctor in conjunction with your symptoms, medical history, physical examination, and other investigations to establish a diagnosis and recommend appropriate management.
How to Prepare for the Jaanch Diabetes Screening Package?
What to expect before the sample collection:
- An overnight fast of 8 to 12 hours is recommended, as some tests included in the package are best performed in the fasting state. During the fasting period, you may drink plain water. Avoid all beverages such as fruit juices, tea and coffee.
- It is recommended to schedule the test in the morning as an overnight fast is more convenient and usually recommended.
- Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours before the test, as these may temporarily affect blood sugar and lipid levels. If you smoke, avoid smoking during the fasting period.
- Inform your healthcare provider about any prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, or dietary supplements you are taking, especially those used to treat diabetes, as they may influence certain test results. Do not stop taking any prescribed medication unless your doctor specifically advises you to do so.
- You may wear clothing with loose or half sleeves to ensure comfortable blood sample collection.
What to expect during the sample collection:
- A trained phlebotomist will first verify your details and explain the procedure.
- You will be seated comfortably, and a tourniquet (elastic band) will be tied around your upper arm to make a suitable vein easier to locate. You may be asked to make a fist, but you should avoid repeatedly clenching and unclenching your hand, as this can affect certain test results.
- Once the skin is cleaned with an antiseptic swab, a sterile needle will be inserted into a vein, usually in the bend of your elbow, to collect the required blood sample into one or more collection tubes.
- You may feel a brief pinprick or mild discomfort when the needle is inserted.
- After the sample has been collected, the tourniquet and needle will be removed, and gentle pressure will be applied to the site with a cotton swab or gauze before it is covered with a small adhesive bandage.
- The entire blood collection procedure usually takes only a few minutes and is generally well tolerated.
- Once the sample has been collected, it will be taken to the laboratory for analysis.
What to expect after the sample collection:
- Once the blood sample has been collected, you can resume your normal diet, medications, and daily activities.
- If you have been fasting, it is advisable to have a meal or snack soon after the sample collection.
- Mild pain or bruising at the needle insertion site may occur but usually resolves within a few days.
- Your doctor will interpret the results in the context of your symptoms, medical history, and other clinical findings to determine whether further evaluation, treatment, or lifestyle modifications are needed.
Note: If you notice persistent bleeding, increasing pain, swelling, redness, or a rash at the puncture site, consult your doctor.

Glycosylated haemoglobin test (HbA1c): 2 parameters
The glycosylated haemoglobin (HbA1c) test measures your average blood sugar levels over the past 2 to 3 months, while the estimated average blood glucose (ABG) translates this value into an average blood sugar level that is easier to understand. Together, these tests help screen and diagnose prediabetes and diabetes, assess long-term blood sugar control, and monitor the effectiveness of treatment.
