CRP stands for C-reactive protein produced by the liver. CRP levels in the blood are usually low. However, inflammation in the body causes the liver to secrete more C-reactive protein, resulting in increased CRP levels in the bloodstream. High levels of CRP in the blood indicate that there is a problem somewhere in the body that is causing inflammation.

External injury causes redness, swelling, and pain in the affected area, which are signs of inflammation. Inflammation can also occur inside the body, which cannot be seen. It is part of the body's defence mechanism governed by the immune system.
