SGOT is an enzyme found mostly in the liver. Apart from the liver, this enzyme is also present in other parts of the body such as the kidneys, the heart, the brain and the muscles. This liver enzyme, SGOT, is normally present in low levels in the body. When the liver is damaged, the liver cells secrete excess amounts of this enzyme, which enters the bloodstream.
