High blood sugar levels characterise diabetes. It can affect any age group. Type 1 generally affects children and adolescents, whereas Type 2 generally affects people above 30 years of age. The symptoms of both of these are almost the same in individuals. Type 1 is insulin dependent i.e. insulin is required to control blood sugar levels while oral medicines may help manage early cases of type 2. Your medicine suggests that your diabetes may not be type 1.

There are other types of diabetes as well, to confirm the type of diabetes your doctor will advise a few lab tests like , a Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase Autoantibodies test (GAD antibodies test), C- Peptide etc . Consult your doctor for the diagnosis.
