Dandruff is a common problem in the teenage years and can be easily treated. Due to hormonal changes, oil production is increased around puberty. This is why dandruff occurs commonly at this time.

Medicated shampoos are the most effective treatment for dandruff. You can treat it by using anti-dandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione. These shampoos must be used regularly two or three times a week until dandruff clears.

While using the shampoo, it has to be applied over the scalp and massaged lightly. The shampoo should ideally remain in the hair for about five minutes before washing it off.

You can keep up the maintenance treatment with an anti-dandruff shampoo once a week. This treatment is to make sure dandruff does not recur.

Those with dandruff are recommended to avoid the use of hair oil. Oil increases the growth of the fungus associated with dandruff and makes it more challenging to treat.

Although this treatment is usually enough, additional medication may be required in some cases. It is advisable to consult a dermatologist for detailed examination and treatment.
