Yurpeak (tirzepatide): uses, dosage, side effects and price in India
Yurpeak is a brand of tirzepatide that was launched on 10 December 2025. It contains the same active ingredient as Mounjaro.
Yurpeak is manufactured by Eli Lilly and distributed in India by Cipla. It is a once-weekly injection approved in India for the management of type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management. It is a Schedule H prescription medicine and can only be purchased with a valid doctor’s prescription.1,3
It is very important to understand that Yurpeak is neither a new medicine nor a generic version of Mounjaro. It contains the same active ingredient (tirzepatide) and also has the same approved indications in India. The only difference is that while Eli Lilly manufactures both medicines, Cipla is responsible for the distribution of Yurpeak across India. This is aimed at helping improve access through its established distribution network.

Is Yurpeak the same as Mounjaro?
This is one of the most common questions people have: are Yurpeak and Mounjaro the same? The short answer is yes, they are similar. They contain the same active ingredient, tirzepatide.3 So, both of them work in the same way and are approved in India for the same indications. Both are also manufactured by Eli Lilly. The only differences are the branding and distribution (not the medicine itself), as they are distributed by different brands.
If your doctor has prescribed tirzepatide, Yurpeak and Mounjaro are clinically equivalent brands containing the same active ingredient. Important: Yurpeak is not the same as semaglutide. Semaglutide (available in brands such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus) is a different medicine that activates only one receptor, whereas tirzepatide activates two receptors. Although both medicines belong to the incretin class, they have different dosing schedules, approved indications, and clinical profiles.
How Yurpeak works
Tirzepatide is a dual glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor agonist. It is often referred to as a ‘twincretin’ because it works by activating two naturally occurring gut hormone receptors that help regulate blood sugar and appetite.3,4
Therefore, by activating both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors, tirzepatide differs from medicines such as semaglutide, which target only the GLP-1 receptor. This dual action helps improve blood glucose control in people with type 2 diabetes and supports chronic weight management when used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
What Yurpeak is approved for in India

In December 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) published its first global guideline recognising obesity as a chronic disease and recommending GLP-1 receptor agonists for eligible adults living with obesity.2
Note: For chronic weight management, this medicine is generally considered for adults with a BMI of 30 kg/m² or higher, or 27 kg/m² or higher with at least one weight-related condition, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or obstructive sleep apnoea.7 However, your doctor will determine whether Yurpeak is appropriate based on your individual health needs.
Important: Yurpeak is intended to be used alongside healthy lifestyle changes, including a balanced diet and regular physical activity. It is designed for long-term treatment under medical supervision rather than as a quick fix.
Yurpeak strengths and prices
Yurpeak is available as a once-weekly KwikPen, which is a prefilled pen, in six strengths. The prices below are the maximum retail prices (MRPs) listed as of August 2026. Yurpeak dosage and titration
Yurpeak is given as a once-weekly injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Choose the same day each week for your injection. It can be taken with or without food. Rotate the injection site each week between the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.3
Treatment begins with a low dose that is increased gradually to help your body adjust to the medicine:3
It usually starts with 2.5 mg once weekly. This is the starting dose and is intended to help your body adjust to the medicine. It is not the usual maintenance dose.
Your doctor will gradually increase the dose, typically every four weeks, if needed and well tolerated.
The maintenance dose is selected from the 5 mg to 15 mg range based on your response to treatment and how well you tolerate the medicine. Never change or increase the dose on your own. This should strictly be done only under medical supervision.
Note: If you miss a dose of Yurpeak, you may still be able to take it within a certain time period and then continue with your usual weekly schedule. If too much time has passed, you should skip the missed dose and take your next dose on your regularly scheduled day. Always follow your doctor’s, pharmacist’s, or the patient information leaflet’s instructions if you miss a dose.
Yurpeak side effects
Like all medicines, Yurpeak can cause side effects, although not everyone may experience them. Most side effects affect the digestive system and are more common when treatment begins or when the dose is increased. It often improves as your body adjusts to the medicine.
Note: Eating smaller, plain meals, avoiding heavy or fatty foods, and staying well hydrated may help reduce these symptoms while your body adjusts to the medicine.
Seek medical help right away if you have severe or persistent stomach pain (a sign of possible pancreatitis), signs of an allergic reaction, or symptoms of very low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion).
