What a month of Mounjaro costs

Mounjaro is taken once a week, so a month’s plan usually consists of four doses. Your monthly cost will depend on the strength your doctor prescribes. There are two options available:

KwikPen: Each KwikPen contains four once-weekly doses, so one pen is typically enough for one month. The pen’s MRP is therefore approximately your monthly treatment cost.

Single-dose vials: Each vial contains one weekly dose, so you will usually need four vials for one month’s treatment. So, the vial’s MRP will depend on 4 single doses.

Based on the MRPs as of August 2026, the approximate monthly cost could be around the following:

Starter dose (2.5 mg): ₹13,125 per month

5 mg maintenance dose: ₹16,406 per month

Higher strengths (7.5 to 15 mg): ₹20,625 to ₹25,781 per month

Note: Your doctor will determine the most appropriate dose for you, so your monthly cost will depend on the strength that your doctor prescribes.

First-year cost with dose titration

Mounjaro is started at a low dose and is usually increased gradually (typically every four weeks).3 And as your doctor changes your dose, your monthly treatment cost may also change.

Note: The example below is for illustration only and is not a treatment recommendation.

PeriodIllustrative doseMonthly MRPNotes
Month 12.5 mg₹13,125Starting dose (for tolerability)
Month 25 mg₹16,406First step-up
Months 3 to 125 mg (held)₹16,406 × 10Illustrative maintenance
Illustrative Year 1 total₹13,125 + ₹16,406 + ₹16,406 × 10Held at 5 mg

If your doctor increases your dose to 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, or 15 mg, your monthly treatment cost will increase accordingly. It could range from approximately ₹20,625 to ₹25,781. If you remain on one of the higher maintenance doses for most of the year, the annual treatment cost may be around ₹2.2 to 2.6 lakh.

Important: These figures are illustrative only. Your doctor will determine the most appropriate dose based on your response and tolerability, and many people remain on lower maintenance doses.

A GLP-1 cost calculator will help you estimate your monthly and annual treatment costs based on your prescribed dose.

Mounjaro vs Yurpeak on price

Yurpeak contains the same active ingredient (tirzepatide) as Mounjaro.3 It is manufactured by Eli Lilly and distributed in India by Cipla. The MRP for equivalent strengths is mostly similar: for example, both the 5 mg KwikPen and the 2.5 mg KwikPen have the same MRP as Mounjaro. The selling price on PharmEasy may sometimes be lower than on other online platforms. However, the actual selling prices may vary over time, so it is worth comparing the latest prices before purchasing.

Since Yurpeak is distributed through Cipla’s nationwide network, it may also be more readily available in some parts of India. If your doctor prescribes tirzepatide, you can compare the latest prices and availability of both brands before ordering. Check Yurpeak price and details to know more.

Note: The choice between any drug should be based on your doctor’s recommendation rather than price alone.

Why Mounjaro prices differ

Several factors can affect the price you pay for Mounjaro. These include:

Presentation: Single-dose vials and KwikPen prefilled pens are priced differently. Each KwikPen contains four once-weekly doses, while each vial contains a single weekly dose.

Strength: Higher-strength formulations cost more than lower-strength ones. And because the prescribed dose of Mounjaro is increased gradually, your monthly treatment cost may increase as your prescribed dose changes.

MRP vs selling price: The MRP is the maximum retail price. Licensed pharmacies may sell the medicine at or below the MRP, so the final purchase price may differ.

Promotions and availability: Discounts, offers, and local availability may also affect the selling price at any given time.

Cold-chain handling: Mounjaro is a temperature-sensitive biologic medicine that must be stored and transported at 2°C to 8°C. Maintaining this cold chain throughout storage and delivery helps preserve the medicine’s quality and effectiveness and may contribute to handling and distribution costs.3

Does insurance cover Mounjaro?

As of August 2026, most IRDAI-regulated health insurance policies in India do not routinely cover for GLP-1 medicines prescribed for chronic weight management. The coverage depends on individual policy, often outpatient prescription drugs and weight management medications are excluded.2

Additionally, coverage may be different when these medicines are prescribed for type 2 diabetes, but all of this varies by insurer, policy, and the terms of your health plan.2 So, always check your policy documents or contact your insurer to confirm whether your treatment is covered before assuming any costs will be reimbursed.
