Am I eligible for GLP-1 therapy? An educational check

As of August 2026, this is an educational guide, not a diagnosis. It calculates your BMI and explains the general medical criteria doctors consider before discussing GLP-1 therapy. It does not prescribe, recommend or approve any medicine, and it cannot tell you that you qualify for one. Only a doctor can decide what is right for you.

Prescription required. All GLP-1 based medicines are Schedule H medicines and require a valid doctor's prescription. This tool is educational only - nothing you enter is stored, and it cannot tell you that you qualify for any medicine.

The general criteria doctors consider

Doctors do not decide on GLP-1 therapy from a single number, but there are broad, well-established starting points. For chronic weight management, GLP-1 therapy is typically discussed when your BMI is 30 or higher, or 27 or higher and you also have a weight-related condition - for example type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or obstructive sleep apnoea.

Type 2 diabetes is a different situation

When GLP-1 medicines are considered as part of managing type 2 diabetes, the reasoning is about blood-sugar control and overall diabetes care, not BMI alone - so the weight criteria above do not apply in the same way. If you have diabetes, this is a conversation for your doctor.

Obesity itself is now recognised as a chronic medical condition, not a lifestyle failing - the World Health Organization issued its first global guideline recommending GLP-1 therapies for adult obesity in December 2025.

Important limitations

This is not a diagnosis or a medical assessment. It is an educational calculator, nothing more.
BMI is an imperfect measure. It does not tell muscle from fat, or account for body composition, ethnicity or age. Clinicians in India may use different cut-offs for South Asian populations.
It does not assess suitability or safety, or tell you that you qualify for anything. No result here is permission, a recommendation or a prescription.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool tell me if I can get Ozempic?

No. It is educational only - it does not name, recommend or approve Ozempic or any other brand for you, and it cannot prescribe. A doctor decides whether a GLP-1 medicine is appropriate after assessing your health.

Does a high BMI mean I qualify for GLP-1 therapy?

No. There is no "qualifying" here. A higher BMI simply falls in the range where doctors more often discuss weight-management options. Whether treatment is right for you is a medical decision that depends on far more than BMI.

Is my height and weight data stored or shared?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your height, weight and any conditions you tick are never sent to PharmEasy and are not saved anywhere. Refreshing the page clears everything.

Why does it ask about conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure?

Because doctors typically discuss GLP-1 weight-management therapy from a BMI of 27 when a weight-related condition is also present, and from 30 without one. The tool uses this only to show the right educational framing - not to assess or diagnose you.
