Alcohol can significantly affect your blood glucose levels. If drinking alcohol cannot be avoided, do not drink on an empty stomach. Also, avoid binge drinking or sustained drinking as it may cause Hypoglycaemia (lower blood sugar than normal).

Alcohol has a lot of calories. Mixing sugary drinks and sweet wines can further raise blood sugar levels. You can choose to mix your alcohol with water or soda instead; it will further limit your consumption. Try drinking only when your diabetes is well in control.

Alcohol can also stimulate appetite and lure you into binge eating, which can cause a sudden rise in blood sugar. Uncontrolled alcohol consumption can also result in high blood pressure, flushing, increased heart rate and nausea. These symptoms can mask the symptoms associated with low blood sugar.

In Type 1 diabetes, where the body cannot produce insulin, insulin needs to be taken with the help of injections or insulin pumps. This insulin makes up for the natural insulin produced by the body and helps manage the blood glucose level.
In the case of Type 1 diabetes, herbal products should not be used as there are no proven methods in modern medicine or alternative medicine to cure Type 1 diabetes.
Before discontinuing or deciding on any treatment plan, it is more suitable if you consult the physician or health professional to choose the best course of action. You can focus on making a customised diet plan for her to help her manage blood sugar levels in the long run.

It might be disheartening, but diabetes is a medical condition that can only be managed. Ayurveda provides treatment mainly with lifestyle modifications. Only lifestyle modifications will not benefit. They are helpful only on a supplementary basis.

There is no proven remedy, medicine or drug in Ayurveda that can increase insulin secretion in the pancreas or stop the body from killing the insulin-producing cells. Hence, Ayurveda would not help fix Type 1 diabetes from the root of the problem. Patients will require insulin injections for type 1 diabetes.

IME-9 and BGR-34 fall under the category of ayurvedic medications. Thus, consultation by an ayurvedic physician is necessary if you wish to incorporate it into the treatment.
Treatment under allopathy does not recommend any of them as an alternate treatment option.

Please avoid altering or adding anything new to the current line of medication without your doctor’s approval.

Further, proper monitoring of blood sugar levels, daily exercise and intake of a healthy diet can help manage both diabetes and heart conditions. You can take help from a nutritionist for the dietary changes.

Routine blood investigations from time to time at least once in three months can also help manage the conditions better.

Istamet is a combination of Two drugs, Sitagliptin and Metformin. Metformin may cause Diarrhoea. But no research has stated constipation as a side-effect. But there may be some chance that Zivast can induce constipation in some cases.

There are a variety of medications available for constipation. Medications are available in powdered, tablet, and syrup form, and should be taken before sleeping.

Each medicine acts by its mechanism. For example, some may work by pushing water into your stools and making them soft, bulky and easy to pass. At the same time, others may increase the pushing power of your intestine. Consult a doctor for a medicine that suits your body.

Generally, these medications do not have a good taste. Hence, many do not continue them for an extended period.

So before you start these medications, try some lifestyle changes.

    • Try drinking water a litre more than you usually drink.
    • Include fruits (in control as it contains fructose) and green leafy vegetable fibres in your diet.
    • Exercise regularly.

There has been no scientific evidence on if the effects of both Shilajit (ayurvedic medicine) and prescription medicine for Type 2 diabetes are the same.

Type 2 diabetes is characterised by the inability of our body cells to utilise insulin. One of the causes of Type 2 diabetes is obesity. A healthy fat-free diet, daily exercise, a regular course of medication and regular monitoring of blood sugar levels are beneficial in treating Type 2 diabetes.
