Diabetes can have many different effects on you. Improper blood sugar management can lead to a range of health issues. However, if your sugar levels are in control, there is nothing much to worry about.

The duration of diabetes Type-2 also determines the complications. Hypoglycemia, that is, low blood sugar levels, can be a complication in the short term. Diabetes is managed effectively with the help of medicines, diet and exercise.

Some long term complications of diabetes Type-2 can be increased blood pressure, vision problems, foot ulcers and increased risk of a heart attack. You may feel anxious, sweaty, and dizzy in such a condition. It is important to talk to your doctor if you feel any changes or complications in the body. Monitor your sugar levels regularly.

It may not be possible to be completely cured of diabetes, but it is possible to achieve good control. With the right medication, you can normally live while intaking minimum doses of medicine.

The main problem with diabetes is the inability of the cells to recognise insulin. If the insulin does not work, then the glucose from the food we eat won’t reach the cells either. So in Type-2 diabetes, medicines are required to help with this situation.

To ensure that the medication dose is minimal, you can try lifestyle changes to control the blood sugar levels. Lifestyle changes such as daily exercise, weight control, weight loss, balanced diet, and giving up vices can majorly influence blood sugar level control. This will add to the efficacy of the medicines.

Keeping a balance in all aspects is needed here. Over years if an equilibrium is maintained, glucose levels will also be maintained, and the dose of medications can be reduced. But without medication, it will be a difficult task. So there is not a complete solution for diabetes without medicines.

The primary test to diagnose Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes is the HbA1C (glycated haemoglobin test). This helps determine your blood sugar levels in the past three months.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune response, where the body attacks the cells in the pancreas that make insulin. Sometimes a viral infection may trigger the autoimmune response.

There are blood tests and urine tests to check for antibodies common in Type 1 diabetes and may also be performed to differentiate Type 1 diabetes from Type 2. Tests like C-peptide, insulin auto-antibodies help your doctors estimate the level of insulin secreted by pancreas and thus differentiate between type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Insugen-N is an intermediate-acting insulin that may be used along with other diabetes medications for controlling blood sugar levels in Type 1 and 2 diabetes. It is best to consult your doctor before starting any therapy for diabetes.

At present, there is no permanent cure for Type 1 diabetes. People with Type 1 diabetes need treatment in the form of insulin or oral medicines for the rest of their lives.

As Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, where the cells of your body attack the pancreatic cells that make insulin, it must be managed with artificial insulin to manage the condition. Several options are available for insulin administration. These include:

    • Fine needle and syringe
    • Insulin pen with a fine needle
    • Insulin pump

Following the treatment plan religiously can help you lead a healthier life. However, a device known as a sensor-augmented pump may be available in the near future. This device combines an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor to automatically deliver insulin when needed by the body.

For the time being, you can talk to your doctor about long-acting insulins and the latest advancements in insulin delivery systems to ensure less frequent painful injections.

Honey contains high sugar. High sugar in honey can worsen uncontrolled diabetes. But, honey also contains antioxidants and other anti-inflammatory nutrients. Antioxidants in honey can help in reducing inflammation and diabetes complications.

So, if your Type 1 diabetes is well-controlled, you may occasionally take honey in very small quantities. But, if your sugar is running high, it is better to first control it and then add honey to your diet. In all cases, avoid eating honey in large amounts in diabetes.

If you like the taste of honey in tea, milk, or desserts, you can, of course, replace table sugar with a small amount of honey but you must know that honey also elevates blood sugar levels. The best advice would be to minimise the use of any kind of sugar or sweetener to food and beverages.

Generally, people taking insulin therapy (mostly Type 1 cases) have to take extra precautions while waxing. Patients with Type 2 diabetes can go for waxing without any problem.
However, precautions like hygiene maintenance, using good quality wax, which melts at low temperature, opting for the best quality waxing products and moisturising the skin after waxing must be taken in both Type 1 and Type 2 cases to avoid skin irritation or injury.

Both these medications are a combination of three classes of drugs. The duration for which you have diabetes is notable. With you being already on two medications, it seems that your HbA1c is relatively high.

As age increases with time, the insulin requirements in the body increase. In your case, there are two things to note. One is the inability of the body to produce sufficient insulin with increasing age. Second is the inability of these medications to decrease blood sugar glucose levels. Again, the failure of both this reflected on your HbA1c.

It would be best to meet your family physician or a diabetologist. Changes in one of your medications are needed. Another class of Oral Hypoglycemic drug needs to be added, or Injectable Insulin may need to be started. Your doctor will take the other decision of either of the two.
