Wegovy price by strength
Each strength represents a step in Wegovy’s dose-escalation schedule. The treatment usually begins with the 0.25 mg starter dose and is increased gradually over several months until you reach the maintenance dose your doctor recommends.4
What a month of Wegovy costs
Wegovy is taken once a week. So, a month’s treatment usually consists of four doses. Wegovy is supplied in a multi-dose FlexTouch pen, with each pen designed to deliver multiple weekly doses.4 The treatment begins with a low dose that is increased gradually over several months, so your monthly treatment cost changes as your prescribed strength changes. Based on August 2026 MRPs:4

Wegovy vs generic semaglutide on cost
Following the expiry of the semaglutide patent in India on 20 March 2026, more than 26 generic semaglutide brands entered the market,5 with some priced from around ₹350 per week.2
However, price is only one part of the comparison. Many generic semaglutide products are approved for the management of type 2 diabetes rather than chronic weight management.1,2 As a result, a lower-priced generic is not necessarily a substitute for Wegovy, and any change in treatment should be made only on your doctor’s advice.
Novo Nordisk also sells another semaglutide brand, Poviztra (Emcure). To compare the semaglutide brands currently available in India, including their approved indications, strengths, and prices, see our semaglutide molecule page.
Does insurance cover Wegovy?
GLP-1 medicines prescribed for chronic weight management are generally not covered under standard IRDAI-regulated health insurance policies in India.3 As a result, Wegovy is usually an out-of-pocket expense.
If Wegovy is prescribed alongside another covered medical condition, the way costs are handled may vary depending on your insurer and policy. So, always check your policy documents or contact your insurer to confirm whether any part of your treatment is covered or not.
How to buy Wegovy with a prescription
