I was diagnosed with diabetes Type-2 six months back. I am taking medicines regularly and following the lifestyle modifications advised by my doctor. However, I have been facing significant hair fall issues for the past three months. The hair loss has increased in the last two weeks. I have got some bald patches too. Will my hair regrow? Is this because of diabetes?

Hair loss can have several reasons, ranging from physical and mental stress on one spectrum to diabetes on another. Losing less than 100 strands of hair a day is normal and nothing to worry about.

Diabetes may lead to significant hair loss, especially if your diabetes is not under control.
Type 2 diabetes is often diagnosed late. Hence, it might be possible that you have had high sugar levels for quite some time now but have only been diagnosed recently.

High blood sugar levels destroy the blood vessels supplying nutrients to the hair roots. Hair thinning and hair loss are common among people with diabetes. However, the hair tends to grow back naturally in most people.

Significant hair loss causing bald patches despite following a healthy lifestyle and being consistent with your medications might need some special attention from experts.
