My son is on Levipil 500, and sometimes he forgets to take his dose. Will missing a dose cause any problem or seizure again? How should we manage it if he forgets next time?

    Dear Reader,

Managing medication schedules can be challenging, and it’s a common concern when a child is on a medication like Levipil 500(which contains levetiracetam). While a single missed dose of a seizure medication could potentially increase the risk of a breakthrough seizure, it’s important to remember that every person responds differently. The best course of action depends on how long after the scheduled time the dose is remembered.

If your son forgets a dose, the general guideline is to administer it as soon as you remember, unless it is already almost time for the next scheduled dose. In that scenario, you should simply skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Never give two doses at the same time to make up for a missed one. Since Levipil is an important prescription medicine, you should always consult with your son’s treating neurologist or doctor immediately upon realizing a dose was missed. They know his specific medical history, dosing regimen, and can provide the most accurate, patient-specific advice.

    Wishing your child good health.
