My mother-in-law is 57 years of age and has had high blood pressure for seven years. She is taking her BP medicines regularly. Three months ago, she got Covid-19, and her blood tests revealed high blood sugar levels.
Her HbA1c was also 12.7. So the doctor has started her on two medicines, Vogli Trio SR 0.3 and Xilda M500/50mg. But her random blood sugar was still high in the range of 220-275.
I have been checking her sugar levels daily. Should we consult a diabetologist or wait for more time for the medicines to show effect? Please advice.
Diabetes nowadays is common in post-Covid-19 patients.
By now, with routine intake of prescribed medications her blood sugar levels should have normalised, but it is still high- so you should consult a diabetologist. There are other factors also which need to be monitored. Specific changes might be suggested in lifestyle also. For example, a healthy diet , regular exercise, and weight loss(if indicated) are important along with medications.
Please ensure the medication is followed as per the changes made by the diabetologist and closely monitor the blood sugar levels.
