I have had diabetes for the past 18 years. I have been regular with my medicines all these years. I am currently taking the tablet Pionorm-GM and Trizoryl Forte 2 SR regularly. Unfortunately, my recent report still shows abnormal sugar levels, and my HbA1c is also 8.3. Are these medicines okay for me?
Both these medications are a combination of three classes of drugs. The duration for which you have diabetes is notable. With you being already on two medications, it seems that your HbA1c is relatively high.
As age increases with time, the insulin requirements in the body increase. In your case, there are two things to note. One is the inability of the body to produce sufficient insulin with increasing age. Second is the inability of these medications to decrease blood sugar glucose levels. Again, the failure of both this reflected on your HbA1c.
It would be best to meet your family physician or a diabetologist. Changes in one of your medications are needed. Another class of Oral Hypoglycemic drug needs to be added, or Injectable Insulin may need to be started. Your doctor will take the other decision of either of the two.
