I have very greasy hair, and it stays oily even after washing. I regularly use Head and Shoulders shampoo for dandruff, but my hair is still the same. I am not using any products or oils in my hair. There is also a lot of hair fall while washing. What should I do?
Seborrheic dermatitis is a scalp condition characterised by greasy, yellow scales. It may also be associated with increased hair fall.
It is important to be gentle with the scalp and not remove the scales.
Maintaining a clean scalp is very important. Using medicated shampoos is advisable. Shampoos containing ketoconazole, coal tar, or salicylic acid are prescribed commonly. You may also need steroid lotions.
These products have to soften the scales and cleanse the scalp. You may need to wash your hair daily in case of an oily scalp.
However, while washing the scalp, the shampoo must be massaged gently using the pads of fingers. Vigorously rubbing the scalp may result in increased hair fall.
A consultation with a dermatologist is required to understand which products would be the most effective.
