    Dear Reader,

To answer your first question, How long does wisdom tooth pain last?

Wisdom tooth pain can vary in duration depending on the individual and the condition of the tooth. For some people, the pain may be intermittent and last for a few days or weeks as the tooth erupts. For others, the pain can be more persistent, especially if the tooth is impacted or causing complications such as infection or crowding.

And for the second question, is it necessary to get your wisdom tooth pulled out?

Whether or not it is necessary to remove a wisdom tooth depends on several factors:

    1. Impaction: If the wisdom tooth is impacted (stuck in the gum or jawbone), it often needs to be removed to prevent pain, infection or damage to adjacent teeth.
    2. Infection: If the wisdom tooth causes repeated infections, such as pericoronitis (inflammation of the tissue around the tooth), extraction is usually recommended.
    3. Crowding: If the wisdom tooth is pushing against other teeth and causing crowding or misalignment, removal might be necessary.
    4. Cavities or Gum Disease: If the wisdom tooth has cavities or contributes to gum disease that cannot be easily treated due to its position, extraction may be advised.
    5. Asymptomatic: In some cases, wisdom teeth that are fully erupted and healthy, causing no pain or problems, may not need to be removed. Regular monitoring by a dentist is important to ensure they remain problem-free.

I suggest you consult a dentist. A dentist will evaluate your specific situation through a clinical examination and possibly X-rays to determine the best course of action for your wisdom teeth.

    Dear Reader,

Wisdom tooth eruption often causes pain and discomfort. This happens because, along with evolution, our jaw size has reduced, making it difficult to accommodate the wisdom tooth normally.

It is common to see problems related to impacted wisdom teeth these days because of lack of space for eruption. This results in wisdom teeth pushing the adjacent teeth or coming in unusual directions.

You must consult a dentist for this problem. Treatment can vary from person to person. Some may require an extraction of the wisdom teeth, while others may benefit from minor interventions. So do not worry; let your dentist evaluate the condition first.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear Reader,

Pain in wisdom tooth can be due to:

    1. Inflammation in the soft tissues surrounding the tooth (pericoronitis)
    2. Cavity or infection in the wisdom tooth
    3. Pain due to food lodgment and gum infection
    4. Pain in adjacent tooth due to the damage caused by wisdom tooth

    Remedies for wisdom tooth pain:

    1. Cold compress
    2. Avoid chewing from the affected side

Treating a snake bite without medical help can be life-threatening. Make every possible effort to reach the nearest hospital as soon as possible. Here are some do’s and don’ts to be followed to manage snake bite efficiently:

    1. Seek Immediate Medical Attention: Call for an ambulance or ask someone to rush you to the nearest hospital.
    2. Avoid Self-Transport: Do not drive yourself to the hospital, as snakebite victims can become dizzy or lose consciousness.
    3. Antivenom Treatment: Antivenom is crucial for venomous snake bites. The sooner it is administered, the better the chances of preventing irreversible damage.
    4. Snake Identification: If possible, safely take a photograph of the snake from a distance. Identifying the snake can aid in appropriate treatment.
    5. Stay Calm: Keep calm to help slow the spread of venom. Deep breathing can help you relax.

First Aid: Apply basic first aid till you reach the hospital

    • Position: Sit or lie down with the bite area at a neutral level of comfort. Do not elevate the affected area.
    • Remove Jewelry: Take off rings and watch before swelling begins.
    • Clean the Bite: Wash the area with soap and water.
    • Cover the Bite: Use a clean, dry dressing to cover the wound.
    • Mark Swelling: Mark the leading edge of tenderness or swelling on the skin and note the time.

     Actions to Avoid

    • Do Not Handle the Snake: Do not pick up or attempt to trap the snake. Avoid handling venomous snakes, even if they appear dead.
    • Do Not Wait for Symptoms: Seek medical help immediately without waiting for symptoms to develop.
    • Avoid Tourniquets: Do not apply a tourniquet or tie anything tightly around the bite.
    • Do Not Cut the Wound: Refrain from slashing the wound with a knife or making any cuts.
    • Do Not Suck Out Venom: Do not attempt to suck out the venom.
    • Avoid Ice or Water: Do not apply ice or immerse the wound in water.
    • No Alcohol or Painkillers: Do not consume alcohol or take pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen.
    • Avoid Electric Shock or Folk Remedies: Do not use electric shocks or any local remedies.

Following these guidelines can help manage the situation until professional medical help is available. I strongly advise consulting a qualified doctor or reaching out to a hospital where anti-venom can be administered. The patient will be kept under observation if needed.

    Hope this helps.

    Dear Reader,

Yes, babies can be born with teeth, although it is very rare. These teeth, known as ‘natal teeth’, are present at birth. It is more common for a baby to have one or two natal teeth rather than a complete set. These teeth usually appear on the lower gums and can sometimes be loose because the roots are not fully developed.

If a baby is born with natal teeth, it is important to have them checked by a pediatric dentist (MDS, Pedodontics) to ensure they are safe and do not cause feeding problems or a risk of choking. Hope this helps!

    Dear Reader,

It’s sad to hear about your family member’s diagnosis. Malaria treatment depends on the type of Plasmodium parasite causing the infection and the severity of the illness. The typical treatments include:

    1. Antimalarial Medications: The choice of medication depends on the parasite species and the region where the infection was acquired.
    2. Supportive Care: This may include fluids, electrolytes, and treatments for fever and pain.

Recovery time varies. Uncomplicated malaria can take about 1-2 weeks for full recovery with proper treatment, while severe malaria might require a longer hospital stay and recovery period.

To help your family member feel better:

    1. Ensure They Take Medications as Prescribed: Adherence to the treatment regimen is crucial. Doses should not be missed, and it is important to complete the entire course of medicines as prescribed by a doctor.
    2. Keep Them Hydrated: Encourage them to drink plenty of fluids. You may offer them homemade healthy soups, buttermilk, lemonade, milk, coconut water etc.
    3. Provide Nutritious Meals: Ensure they eat balanced meals to support their immune system. Avoid oily and spicy foods. Give them freshly cooked, easy-to-digest food.
    4. Rest and Comfort: Help them rest and create a comfortable environment.
    5. Keep a record of their body temperature, BP and Pulse. This will help the doctor in tracking their recovery.

Always follow the doctor’s advice and report any worsening symptoms immediately.

    Hope this helps.

    Wishes for a speedy recovery!

Malaria is caused by Plasmodium parasites, not by viruses or bacteria. These parasites are transmitted to humans through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. There are several species of Plasmodium, with P. falciparum and P. vivax being the most common.

To protect yourself while travelling to tropical areas, take preventive measures such as:

    • Using insect repellent
    • Wearing full-length protective clothing
    • Sleeping under a mosquito net

Avoiding mosquito bites is crucial. Malaria presents with symptoms like fever with chills, weakness, bodyache, headache. If you experience any such symptoms during or upto 15 -20 days after returning from your trip, consult your doctor and get tested for malaria.

I hope this information will help you stay safe from mosquito bites and malaria!

    Wish you good health.

    Dear Reader,

Let me share a few dietary tips that will help you after tooth extraction.

    1. Immediately after tooth extraction, you will be given a pressure pack and must keep your mouth closed for the next 40-60 minutes.
    2. Once you remove the pack, as advised by your dentist, you may consume something cold like ice cream (if your health allows).
    3. For the first 1-2 days, you may need to stick to a semi-solid and liquid diet at normal cold temperatures. But remember, this is just a temporary adjustment.
    4. After this initial period, you can gradually transition back to your normal diet. Just be sure to avoid anything that’s hard to chew until the extraction site has fully healed.

Options for semi-solid and liquid diets can include:

    1. Milkshakes
    2. Buttermilk
    3. Yogurt
    4. Soup
    5. Khichdi
    6. Daliya
    7. Halwa
    8. Boiled/baked mashed potatoes and/or sweet potatoes
    9. Mashed bananas
    10. Dal rice

Remember, your dentist is your best guide during this recovery period. Make sure to note down all the post-operative care instructions and follow them diligently for a smooth and comfortable recovery after tooth extraction. Take care!

    Dear Reader,

Viral fever is a very broad term that includes mild infections like the common cold and flu, as well as concerning infections like COVID-19, swine flu, dengue, etc. Certain severe viral infections, such as influenza, COVID-19, and swine flu, can affect the respiratory system and potentially lead to decreased oxygen saturation.

If a viral infection causes complications like pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), oxygen levels can drop.

It’s important to monitor symptoms, and if you notice symptoms like difficulty breathing, chest pain, or a persistent drop in oxygen levels (SPO2 below 94%), seek medical attention promptly.

Always consult with a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management right from the beginning of illness, this will reduce the risks of serious complications later on.

    Hope this helps.
