    Dear Reader,

I understand the intense heat in Noida, with temperatures reaching up to 50 degrees Celsius. Commuting daily in such conditions can indeed be challenging.

Regarding your concern, yes, a heatwave can contribute to headaches, but it’s not the sole factor. Headaches during a heatwave may stem from prolonged exposure to heat and bright sunlight, dehydration, and fluctuations in blood pressure.

Let me share some tips that can help you:

    1. Stay hydrated – Drink plenty of water and replenish electrolytes by consuming buttermilk, lemonade, ORS at regular intervals.
    2. Wear good quality sunglasses while driving – If you wear power glasses then your sunglasses should also have the same power since you need to wear them for long periods of time while driving. Consult an eye doctor for an eye checkup and get appropriate sunglasses made.
    3. Take breaks – If your commute requires prolonged sun-exposure take breaks in shade or air cooled areas and hydrate yourself. This will allow your body to regulate the body-temperature. Stop driving and ask for help if you feel dizzy or low anytime while driving.
    4. Avoid sun – I understand that you need to travel during the day, but try and schedule your travel in such a way that you can stay indoors during peak heat hours.
    5. Cover yourself well – Cover yourself well with breathable cotton fabric.

Take care of your diet and nutrition. Check your BP and blood sugar levels. Visit a doctor to rule out other possible causes of recurrent headaches and follow their advice.

I hope the temperature drops down soon. Till then take good care of yourself to stay safe from heat wave.

    Hope this helps

    Wish you good health.

    Dear reader,
I understand your concern. Infact, during my college days, I too faced the problem of feeling low and tired during summers. This usually happens due to dehydration and a drop in BP. I always carried ORS with me during my clinical postings to manage this. However with every passing year, the summers are getting extreme causing us to bear the brunt of heatwaves.
I have collated some easy to follow tips for you to stay safe from  heat waves-

    1. Avoid Going Out During Peak Hours – Prefer staying indoors between 11 am and 5 pm when the heat is most intense. You can tweak your travel time accordingly.
    2. OOTW (Outfit Of The Wave) – Dress in light colours and loose-fitting clothes to stay cool.
      1. Use scarfs, umbrellas, and caps to limit direct sun exposure.
      2. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes and the sensitive skin around them.
    3.  Stay Hydrated-
      1. Drink plenty of fluids such as water, buttermilk/lassi, fruit juices, coconut water, lemonade, and ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution).
      2. Avoid hot tea/coffee, alcohol, and sugary sodas which can contribute to dehydration.
    4. Eat Healthy:
      1.  Consume light meals, fruits with high water content, and foods high in fiber and protein.
      2. Avoid fried and spicy foods as well as stale or leftover food, which can be harder to digest in hot weather.
    5. Apply Sunscreen- Use sunscreens with SPF 30 or above to protect your skin from tanning and sun damage.
    6. Avoid Exertion- Do not overexert, hot weather can lead to heat exhaustion.
    7. Monitor Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar- Check your blood pressure and blood sugar levels when you feel low. Consult a doctor if the readings are deranged or symptoms persist even after following these measures and maintaining hydration.

        Hope this helps.
        Wish you good health.

Reversal of Type 2 diabetes is possible. To reverse diabetes, you would have to bring down the blood glucose level to an acceptable range so that you don’t require insulin or medication support. You can follow these tips to reverse your diabetes:

        • Contact a dietician to get on a low-calorie diet, as it requires extreme control over how many calories you eat in a day.
        • Routine exercise will help you lose the extra weight and promote the reversal of your diabetes.
        • Fasting is a straightforward way to lose excess weight and cut down blood sugar levels. Still, you should do it under supervision.
        • Bariatric surgery is an option only if your BMI is 35 or higher. The surgery will help you lose weight and reverse your diabetes. Still, it is essential to consult your physician, as surgeries involve several risks.

If on medication, please do not stop or alter your medication without the doctor’s approval, even if your sugar comes at the normal range.

Type 1 Diabetes (T1DM) is associated with genetic factors, but the exact pattern is unknown. If you and your partner have T1DM, then both of you carry individual risks for the baby to develop the same disease. Further, the risk cannot be avoided by surrogacy, as the chances are that the baby may develop the same condition since your genes will be transmitted to the baby in the process of fertilisation.
Surrogacy, a lot of times, is the last option for women with Type 1 Diabetes mellitus because it is associated with a lot of fetus growth-related complications like miscarriages, birth defects, preterm delivery, stillbirth, and agenesis of organs. Plus, the mother has to take more than usual amounts of insulin to provide nutrition to the fetus.
Thus, it’s best to consult your diabetologist and gynaecologist if you have severe Type 1 diabetes to check if you should go for conception or surrogacy. Make sure you know all the options available.

Type 2 diabetes involves having excess blood glucose. This is because the body does not produce enough insulin or respond to the insulin produced, known as insulin resistance.

You may face additional risks by drinking alcohol if you have Type 2 diabetes. People on insulin or anti-diabetic medicines may experience a temporary drop in low blood sugar levels. Alcohol may reduce your body’s ability to recover when your blood sugar levels fall.

While alcohol can decrease your blood sugar levels, it should not be misunderstood as a benefit. WHO clearly states that there is no safe level of drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of cancers, obesity, heart diseases, mental illnesses, organ damage and more.

Alcohol may also cause weight gain. Drinking alcohol is not at all advised. A psychiatrist may help you quit the habit of drinking alcohol. It is important to measure your sugar levels regularly and consult your diabetologist.

Treatment under allopathy does not recommend BGR-34 as an alternate treatment option.

Please avoid altering or adding anything new to the current line of medication without your doctor’s approval.

Further, proper monitoring of blood sugar levels along with daily exercise and intake of a healthy diet can help manage both diabetes and heart conditions. You can take help from a nutritionist for the dietary changes.

Routine blood investigations from time to time at least once in three months can also help in managing the conditions better.
