My wife has been diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes. She is taking Glycomet GP 1 and Glycomet 1 tablets each day. Her blood reports after one month of taking these medicines were fasting sugars – 117 and post-meal – 146. Are these medicines correct for her, or should she change the medicines?

It is essential to consult the doctor if you are unsatisfied with the current prescription and want to change. The doctor will take into account factors like age, the onset of diabetes, sugar levels, and HbA1c levels before starting on any new medicines.

Strictly adhere to the medicines as prescribed by your doctor. Take them in the correct dosage and duration as prescribed. Avoid switching medicines or self-medicating. Diabetes is an ongoing disease. Its management is also an ongoing process.

Management of diabetes Type-2 involves regulation of blood sugar. It is important to maintain blood sugar levels to avoid complications of diabetes.

The normal random blood sugar levels for diabetes Type-2 ranges between 72 and 126 mg/dl. Diet and exercise also play a major role in the management of diabetes.
