Is Naxdom 500 safe during pregnancy?

My friend has been taking Naxdom 500 for her migraine attacks and just found out she’s pregnant. Is this medicine safe to continue, or should she stop it and check with her doctor first?

    Dear Reader,

Naxdom 500 is not considered safe during pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimesters.

    What your friend should do-

She should stop taking Naxdom 500 immediately and speak to her doctor as soon as possible.
A single accidental dose is usually not harmful, so she shouldn’t panic, but continuing it regularly can be risky.

Why is it avoided in pregnancy:

    • In early pregnancy: It may slightly increase the risk of complications.
    • After 20 weeks: NSAIDs like naproxen can reduce amniotic fluid and affect the baby’s kidneys.
    • Domperidone is not routinely recommended in pregnancy unless prescribed specifically.

What she can safely do now:

    • Tell her doctor about the dose she took and how many days she used it.
    • Her doctor may switch her to safer migraine medicines, like paracetamol, which is usually preferred during pregnancy.

In short, if she only took a few tablets before knowing she was pregnant, it’s unlikely to cause harm, but she should stop Naxdom 500 and consult her doctor to discuss safer alternatives for migraine during pregnancy.

    Wishing you good health.
