I am taking Montek LC tablet daily for allergies, but I still get sneezing and a runny nose. Is this a normal side effect?

I’m taking Montek LC tablet daily for my allergies, but I still keep sneezing and getting a runny nose. Is this normal, or does it mean the medicine isn’t working properly? Also wondering if it can cause any side effects when used long-term?

    Dear Reader,

Experiencing persistent sneezing and a runny nose while on Montek LC Tablet is not a normal side effect of the medicine. In fact, Montek LC is prescribed specifically to relieve these allergic symptoms.

If your symptoms are continuing despite daily use, it typically suggests one of two things:

    1. The medicine is not fully controlling your specific allergy, or it is not strong enough for your current exposure to allergens. This can happen if your body encounters a very high level of an allergen (like a high pollen count) or if your condition requires a different or additional type of treatment.
    2. The symptoms are due to a non-allergic cause, such as a viral common cold, which Montek LC (an anti-allergy medicine) will not treat.

    Long-Term Use and Side Effects:

Montek LC, a combination of Montelukast and Levocetirizine, is generally considered safe for long-term when used under a doctor’s supervision for chronic conditions like persistent allergic rhinitis.

    Common side effects often include:

    • Sleepiness or fatigue (due to Levocetirizine)
    • Dry mouth
    • Headache

Less common but more serious side effects associated with the Montelukast component, such as mood changes, sleep disturbances, or aggressive behaviour, have been reported. It is important to monitor for any psychological or behavioural changes and report them to your prescriber immediately.

Given that your primary symptoms are not improving, you must consult your doctor. They can evaluate whether your diagnosis is accurate, adjust your medication, or recommend additional steps such as allergen avoidance or other treatments. Do not stop or change your medicine dosage without professional medical advice.
