I have been using Ketoconazole shampoo for the past one week every day. I use it as an anti-dandruff solution, but dandruff doesn’t seem to be reducing. My friend suggested Fluconazole shampoo; is it more effective? Are there any alternative medications?
Any shampoo used for dandruff has to be used regularly for at least four to six weeks to see its effect. Initially, it can be used two or three times a week.
Dandruff is a chronic fungal infection of the scalp. It is related to a type of yeast.
After the shampoo is applied, it should be kept on for five or ten minutes. The shampoo should not be washed off immediately.
There are many active ingredients effective in the treatment of dandruff. This includes Ketoconazole, Zinc Pyrithione, Selenium Sulfide, and others.
Dandruff comes and goes, and this is normal. It is important to give enough time for the treatment to act.
If the infection is not cleared after a few weeks, you can try alternate treatment options.
