Dear Reader,
Viral fever is a very broad term that includes mild infections like the common cold and flu, as well as concerning infections like COVID-19, swine flu, dengue, etc. Certain severe viral infections, such as influenza, COVID-19, and swine flu, can affect the respiratory system and potentially lead to decreased oxygen saturation.
If a viral infection causes complications like pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), oxygen levels can drop.
It’s important to monitor symptoms, and if you notice symptoms like difficulty breathing, chest pain, or a persistent drop in oxygen levels (SPO2 below 94%), seek medical attention promptly.
Always consult with a doctor for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management right from the beginning of illness, this will reduce the risks of serious complications later on.
Hope this helps.

Dear Reader,
Laughing disorder, often linked to Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA), is a condition characterized by sudden, uncontrollable episodes of laughing or crying that are disproportionate or inappropriate to the social context.
PBA is caused by a disruption in the brain’s neural pathways that regulate emotional expression. This disruption can also occur due to neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or traumatic brain injury.
Patients with PBA experience episodes of involuntary emotional expression, which can be distressing and socially embarrassing. These episodes are not necessarily connected to the person’s actual emotional state and can occur without any apparent trigger.
PBA is often underdiagnosed because its symptoms can be mistaken for mood disorders. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are essential for improving the quality of life for individuals affected by PBA. Patient education and counselling also play an important role.
If your friend has relatable symptoms, he/she should consult a neurologist for a diagnosis of the underlying cause, and treatment may vary accordingly. Hope this helps!

Dear Reader,
The latest ICMR dietary guidelines recommend that people avoid consuming a high level of protein, especially protein supplements. It is best to fulfil one’s daily protein requirements through dietary sources.
Dietary proteins come from both plant and animal sources. Animal proteins, such as those found in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and milk, contain all twenty amino acids, including the nine essential amino acids (EAAs) necessary for new protein synthesis in the body.
Plant-based sources like lentils, green gram, horse gram, black gram, chickpeas, kidney beans, cowpeas, soybeans, and green peas are also rich in proteins.
Nuts and seeds, including almonds, pistachios, cashews, walnuts, hazelnuts, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, and sesame seeds, provide significant protein as well.

Dear Reader,
Dengue is a viral infection spread by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. Dengue fever is not contagious and does not spread from person to person except in cases of pregnancy, where it can be transmitted to the developing baby from the infected mother. There is very little evidence of the spread of dengue fever by other routes.
To answer your second question, how to know if you have dengue? My suggestion is to never try to self diagnose dengue or any other viral fever. With the given symptoms, you should consult a doctor immediately, they will advise you of necessary tests like the NS1 antigen test, IGG and IGM for diagnosing dengue. They may also advise other tests to rule out typhoid, malaria, chikungunya, etc.
There are chances of life-threatening complications due to a drop in BP and platelet count in some people suffering from serious dengue infection. Therefore, it is very crucial to consult a doctor and follow their advice.
Hydrate well, eat healthy, and rest well till you recover.
Wish you good health.
