Sebaceous glands produce oil in the skin and scalp. These glands are primarily present in areas with hair, and they continuously release oil.

Some people have a natural tendency for increased oil production. In such cases, the scalp or skin over the face and back may feel oily all the time.

Oil provides a breeding ground for fungal growth and can result in problems such as dandruff.

A good anti-dandruff shampoo may be recommended as a treatment. The use of hair oils should be avoided. Products containing ketoconazole, ciclopirox olamine, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione are recommended. If the scalp remains oily, it is recommended to wash the hair daily.

Pimples can be seen over the forehead because of dandruff. It irritates the skin. Increased oil production over the face can also be a reason.

Taking the correct treatment for dandruff will help reduce the pimples as well. You may also require additional creams for pimples.

Dandruff is a scalp condition associated with increased growth of a type of fungus.

Dandruff is usually seen in people who have an oily scalp. There are some reasons why this could increase after hair treatments.

After specific treatments, the use of mild shampoos is advised. These shampoos may fail to cleanse the scalp effectively. As a result, the scalp remains oily, providing a breeding ground for the infection.

Some people also tend to reduce the frequency of hair wash following treatments to prolong effects. This has a similar outcome of leaving the scalp oily for longer.

There can be many causes of hair fall. Heat treatments over the scalp, especially if done regularly, also increase hair fall.

Regular hair wash with a good anti-dandruff shampoo can help treat this condition.

Ketoconazole and coal tar (main ingredients of Protar K) are both used to treat seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff. However, there are a lot of other products also used in the treatment of these conditions.

Dandruff, especially when it spreads to involve the skin over the face, is called seborrheic dermatitis. This is a type of eczema and is related to infection by a fungus called Malassezia. The specific treatment given for this condition depends on the severity of the condition and what the exact symptoms are. Different products are prescribed in different cases.

The treatment can include antifungal shampoos, lotions with antifungal and steroid ingredients, or oral tablets. The main aim of these treatments is to clear dead skin cells and treat the underlying fungal infection.

It is advisable to consult a dermatologist who will be able to confirm the cause of your repeated symptoms and give the right treatment.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a scalp condition characterised by greasy, yellow scales. It may also be associated with increased hair fall.

It is important to be gentle with the scalp and not remove the scales.

Maintaining a clean scalp is very important. Using medicated shampoos is advisable. Shampoos containing ketoconazole, coal tar, or salicylic acid are prescribed commonly. You may also need steroid lotions.

These products have to soften the scales and cleanse the scalp. You may need to wash your hair daily in case of an oily scalp.

However, while washing the scalp, the shampoo must be massaged gently using the pads of fingers. Vigorously rubbing the scalp may result in increased hair fall.

A consultation with a dermatologist is required to understand which products would be the most effective.

Shampoos are the mainstay of dandruff treatment. Anti-dandruff shampoos are initially prescribed to be used two or three times a week until the dandruff is treated.

In case there is more severe flaking, you can use the shampoo daily as well. After the dandruff is cleared, you must maintain the results by using the anti-dandruff lotion or shampoo once a week.

Anti-dandruff shampoos may sometimes make the hair feel dry if overused.

In such cases, it is advisable to use another mild shampoo to ensure that the hair feels smooth during treatment.

If you have an oily scalp, you may need to wash your hair daily. You should use mild shampoo on alternate days. Leaving the hair oily makes dandruff more difficult to treat.

The total duration of treatment is usually four to six weeks, but it can go on for longer depending on the severity of the disease.

Dandruff is a fungal infection of your scalp and must be treated with medicated anti-dandruff shampoos. These shampoos contain specific ingredients that clear out the agent that causes dandruff.

Another cause of an oily or flaky scalp is infrequent hair washing. Most people wash their hair about two times a week. This could be owing to a busy schedule or just a habit.

However, people with an oily scalp prone to dandruff should ideally wash their hair a lot more frequently. Even daily use of a regular shampoo can help cleanse the scalp.

Anti-dandruff shampoos are safe to use and do not affect hair quality. Home remedies are not proven to be effective and might even worsen the scalp condition.

A visit to a dermatologist is beneficial in understanding how to maintain a healthy scalp.

Dandruff is caused because of a fungal infection.

Shaving the hair off does not affect the hair root that is needed for regrowth. So even after shaving, the hair will grow back.

However, shaving is not a treatment for dandruff or hair fall. Dandruff needs to be treated using special medicated shampoos. These shampoos contain antifungal ingredients that clear the infection.

Hair fall can happen because of many reasons. Some of the common reasons include a poor diet, stress, or exposure to pollution.

A visit to a dermatologist can help diagnose the exact reason for hair fall. Additional treatment may be needed for hair fall.

White hair can sometimes be seen at a young age. It is more likely if others in the family have white hair.

Dandruff is a chronic condition and needs to be treated effectively.

Using hair oil is not advisable if you have dandruff. An oily scalp promotes the growth of the fungus that causes dandruff.

Dandruff itself does not usually result in increased hair fall. Hair fall can happen because of many other reasons such as poor diet or stress. It is also common with advancing age. A dermatologist can find the exact cause and treat it.

To manage dandruff, the use of medicated shampoos is required. The shampoo can be used two or three times a week in the first few months. After that, it should be continued once a week to prevent any recurrence.

Dandruff should be treated first, and then specific treatment for hair fall can be given. Application of hair oil should preferably be discontinued until dandruff is treated.

Thick scales over the scalp, back, and legs suggest psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic condition in which the skin thickens over certain areas. The scales on the scalp make it feel like dandruff. Large white scales also accompany it. However, this is a different condition.

Steroid and salicylic acid combination products are used in the treatment of psoriasis. However, certain tablets may also be required if more body areas are involved. You may also need to get some blood tests done.

It is usual for these changes to increase with stress. It can also increase in winters or because of excessive sun exposure. The treatment may go on for an extended period and should not be a cause of worry.

A dermatologist will be able to examine and provide a confirmed diagnosis. Based on this, they can start the appropriate treatment.

Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis is a type of fungal infection that affects the hair and skin, sometimes even the face, especially over the eyebrows and behind the ears. These areas often look red and dry with scaling of the skin.

Ketoconazole (KZ) products are commonly prescribed as a treatment for this condition. In some cases, they can be used in combination with zinc pyrithione or salicylic acid. These ingredients help control the white flakes.

Using oil when you have dandruff is not advisable. Even though the scalp feels dry because of white flakes, dandruff is not related to the dryness of the skin. It is a fungal infection. The lipid base provided by oil can increase the growth of the fungal elements. This means that it might take longer for dandruff to clear if you are using oil.

Dandruff takes time to get treated, and it can even reappear after some time. It is advisable to use prescribed and medicated products only.
