Overview
The PCOD Screening Package includes some important blood tests that are helpful in the diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Disease or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
The PCOD Screening Package includes 37 blood tests that assess the levels of multiple hormones in your body. It is used in screening and diagnosing PCOS. If detected early, measures can be taken to prevent severe health conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, etc.
PCOD Screening Package tests measure your hormonal imbalances. Some hormones the tests in this package assess are Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH), Prolactin and Testosterone. These hormones are closely linked to your period(menstruation) and pregnancies and have multiple effects all over the body.
PCOD Screening Package includes tests that screen for diabetes including Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Average Blood Glucose, HbA1c(Glycosylated Haemoglobin) and Insulin Fasting(a hormone that helps in regulating your sugar levels).
Your thyroid functions are examined by measuring the level of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH). Last but not least, the PCOD Screening Package also contains CBC that gives information about your blood cells.
If you experience symptoms like irregular periods, heavy bleeding during your period, acne, especially on your face, excessive hair growth on the body parts where it is not supposed to be, hair fall, weight gain, darkening of the skin, this PCOD Screening Package can help your doctor in the diagnosis of your problem.
PCOD is a hormonal and metabolic disease. The causes are genetic and environmental (unhealthy lifestyles like irregular eating habits, improper sleep, high-stress levels and lack of physical activity). The follicles in your ovaries(organs that produce eggs) fail to rupture at the end of every month, resulting in the accumulation of multiple cysts in the ovaries. This causes a disbalance of hormones in the body.
The condition, later on, can lead to insulin resistance (a hormone that manages your sugar levels) and, if not treated, leads to high sugar levels and diabetes. Increasing weight and high sugars tend to increase cholesterol levels (fat level) and ultimately increase blood pressure. All these abnormalities will affect your fertility.
According to research, 5-10% of females between the age groups 18-44 years are affected by PCOD, making it one of the most common hormonal disorders. The cases of PCOD are rising due to faulty lifestyles and its prevalence in India ranges from 3.7 to 22.5% of the population studied. There is a disparity in the distribution of cases between urban, semi-urban and urban areas. In rural areas, the number of females affected is more than what is seen because there are still issues disclosing such sensitive topics.
The PCOD Screening package helps screen such cases and diagnose the condition early in the disease.
