When liver function is impaired, it cannot metabolise\u00a0oestrogen\u00a0effectively. As a result,\u00a0oestrogen\u00a0levels\u00a0tend to remain high,\u00a0which\u00a0in turn\u00a0can\u00a0cause dilation of small blood vessels\u00a0on the skin\u00a0causing a \u201cflushing\u201d like effect.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High cholesterol levels<\/strong>: Bile is involved in the elimination of excess cholesterol in the body. An impaired bile flow can lead to abnormal levels of fat (dyslipidaemia). However, in later stages of the disease, symptoms can be manifested.\u00a0Fatty liver symptoms on face\u00a0in advanced disease\u00a0can include jaundice, pigmentations, spider\u00a0angiomas\u00a0and xanthomas.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>Fatigue:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Fatigue can be\u00a0seen in patients with liver disease<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/liver.org.au\/your-liver\/liver-diseases\/fatty-liver-disease\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">12<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0A dry, rough texture of the skin along with a dull or darkening\u00a0complexion\u00a0can be seen<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/39689154\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">13<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jaundice:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Yellowing of\u00a0the\u00a0white\u00a0portion\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0eyes (sclera) and skin is termed jaundice. Jaundice is manifested\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0result of\u00a0the\u00a0accumulation of\u00a0the\u00a0yellow pigment called bilirubin and its metabolites<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/35814509\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pigmentations:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0A greyish-brown pigmentation of the skin\u00a0in areas which are\u00a0regularly exposed to sunlight. These features are more\u00a0noticeable\u00a0around the mouth and eyes. This might produce a darkened appearance around the eyes. These pigmentary changes are more linked with\u00a0the\u00a0cirrhosis stage of the liver disease<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/35814509\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Spider Angiomas:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0They are small, spider-like blood vessels seen on the skin. They are considered\u00a0a\u00a0characteristic feature in\u00a0the\u00a0late stage of fatty liver disease, which\u00a0is cirrhosis. It appears as a central\u00a0blood vessel\u00a0surrounded by small radiating\u00a0vessels,\u00a0giving a\u00a0spider-like appearance. Spider angiomas are commonly seen\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0face, neck,\u00a0shoulders\u00a0and upper arms<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/35814509\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Xanthoma:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Xanthoma\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0soft and yellow,\u00a0flat\u00a0or raised,\u00a0painless\u00a0area\u00a0of\u00a0fat deposits\u00a0that can occur anywhere on the body.\u00a0The most\u00a0common\u00a0type of\u00a0facial\u00a0xanthoma\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0soft,\u00a0flat\u00a0or slightly raised yellowish\u00a0area, typically\u00a0seen\u00a0on the\u00a0upper\u00a0eyelids, near the nasal bridge. These findings are a result of\u00a0dyslipidaemia, in which\u00a0abnormal fats are\u00a0leaked through the small vessels\u00a0and gets deposited under the skin<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/35814509\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">3<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Facial Puffiness:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0In advanced stages of liver diseases, fluid regulation in the body becomes irregular, which results in the accumulation of fluid.
