Reduced kidney clearance may play a smaller role.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Advanced heart failure:<\/strong>\u00a0Troponin levels can be elevated in people with heart failure even when there is no heart attack. Ongoing stress and damage to heart muscle cells may cause troponin to\u00a0be released\u00a0into the bloodstream.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Brain\u00a0injury\u00a0or\u00a0stroke<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0Troponin levels may rise after a severe brain injury or stroke because the sudden release of stress hormones can temporarily strain the heart.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Acute pulmonary embolism<\/strong>:\u00a0In this condition, a blood clot blocks a blood vessel in the lungs, increasing pressure on the right side of the heart,\u00a0making it work harder.
