Medicines List in September 2025 for high-risk type 2 diabetes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later,\u00a0on\u00a0December 1,\u00a02025, WHO released\u00a0guidelines on the use of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pharmeasy.in\/blog\/everything-to-know-about-glp-1-receptor-agonist-and-its-role-in-weight-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">GLP-1 receptor\u00a0agonists<\/a><\/strong> \/GIP dual agonists\u00a0in long-term obesity management<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/ency\/article\/007853.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">1<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0Even though there is a rapid production of GLP-1\u00a0medications\u00a0across the global market,\u00a0these are\u00a0expected to reach fewer than 10% of people who could benefit from the\u00a0treatment by 2030<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/01-12-2025-who-issues-global-guideline-on-the-use-of-glp-1-medicines-in-treating-obesity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0However,\u00a0with\u00a0the generic variants\u00a0coming up for\u00a0some GLP-1 medications, the outreach\u00a0could\u00a0increase.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A generic drug is an approved copy of the brand drug\u00a0that\u00a0mimics\u00a0the branded drug in its safety, effectiveness, dosage and administration<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/generic-drugs\/generic-drugs-questions-answers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">3<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0So, generic\u00a0GLP-1 medicines are\u00a0generally more cost-effective\u00a0brand alternatives\u00a0that are approved for use\u00a0in patients with type 2 diabetes<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-approves-first-generic-once-daily-glp-1-injection-lower-blood-sugar-patients-type-2-diabetes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">4<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this blog, we will cover the availability of generic\u00a0GLP-1 medicines, the difference between generic names and brand names,\u00a0their cost, rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">4<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In India, generic\u00a0injectable\u00a0semaglutide drugs\u00a0have been approved by\u00a0CDSCO after the patent expiry of semaglutide\u00a0in\u00a0March 2026.\u00a0The manufacturers\u00a0of these\u00a0include Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy\u2019s, Natco and Glenmark, and the generic drugs came into action as a substitute for
