When the body is deficient in calcium, the teeth become more susceptible to decay and gum disease.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abnormal heart rhythm: Calcium is crucial for proper heart function. Here are a few of the causes of calcium deficiency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hypoparathyroidism: <\/strong>When your body doesn\u2019t make enough of a hormone called parathyroid hormone, it can lead to low levels of calcium in your blood. This can happen because of an inherited problem or after surgery to remove one or more of your parathyroid or thyroid glands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vitamin D deficiency:<\/strong> A lack of vitamin D in the body can cause low levels of calcium in the blood because vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium properly. This deficiency can be caused by an inherited disorder, insufficient exposure to sunlight or can also be caused by factors such as limited sunlight exposure due to geographical location or skin coverage, reduced generation of vitamin D by the skin, and certain medical conditions that impair vitamin D absorption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Renal failure:<\/strong> Chronic renal failure increases the level of phosphorus in the blood and decreases the production of a type of vitamin D, leading to hypocalcemia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Certain medications: <\/strong>Bisphosphonates, corticosteroids, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pharmeasy.in\/molecules\/rifampicin-1111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rifampin<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/pharmeasy.in\/molecules\/calcitonin-261\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">calcitonin<\/a><\/strong>, and other drugs can cause hypocalcemia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pseudohypoparathyroidism: <\/strong>It is a hereditary condition in which the body does not respond normally to normal levels of parathyroid hormone.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hypomagnesemia: <\/strong>Low levels of magnesium in the body can decrease the production of parathyroid hormone, resulting in lower blood calcium levels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pancreatitis: <\/strong>Hypocalcemia occurs in approximately 15% to 88% of people with acute pancreatitis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Certain rare genetic disorders:<\/strong> Genetic mutations such as DiGeorge syndrome can cause hypocalcemia<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK430912\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">4<\/a><\/sup>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Complications_of_Calcium_Deficiency\"><\/span><strong>Complications of Calcium Deficiency<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Complications of calcium deficiency can be severe and wide-ranging, affecting both bone health and overall health. I would recommend taking dietary supplementation of calcium regularly.
