You might have offered it in temples and the lotus is considered a sacred plant which is religiously significant in Hinduism and Buddhism. Scientifically, lotus is known as Nelumbo nucifera and it belongs to the family Nelumbaceae. It is also the national flower of India. This sacred lotus is also known as the Indian Lotus (N. nucifera) and is found in regions of Asia and Australia. In the southern and Northern American regions, another variety of lotus, known as the American Lotus (N.
