It belongs to the family <em>Rosaceae<\/em>. It is widely distributed in northern temperate areas such as western Asia and Europe. Genus Prunus comprises two varieties: sweet cherry (P. avium) and tart cherry (P. cerasus). The sweet cherry is a large and black-colored fruit, whereas the tart cherry is originated from the Montmorency varieties<sup><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/21229414\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1<\/a><\/sup>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cherries are densely packed with nutrients and have significantly low calories.
