If you are not taking care of your body parts well, this is your wake up call!

Each body part needs separate care and attention. Thus, there are certain routines that you should follow to ensure that each body part is fit enough – which ultimately leads to a healthy living!

So, here’s a list of different body parts and how you can protect them to stay away from those unwanted bacteria and viruses!

Let us take a look at these body parts that you need to focus on and the kind of care they need:

1. Skin

Did you know that the skin is the largest organ of your body? Your skin is also the first layer of defence against harmful foreign bodies. Every time you step out of your home, you are exposed to a barrage of germs and bacteria. Your skin prevents most of them from entering your body and making you sick.

That is why it is vital that you take better care of your skin because if you are not careful, your skin – the first line of defence against harmful microorganisms – will weaken.

So what should you do to keep your skin healthy? It’s simple, really!

  • Take a shower twice every day, if possible. Use a soap/body wash that suits your skin and does not over dry it – you can also change them according to the weather conditions.
  • Moisturize yourself every day. Body oils or lotions contain vital ingredients that nourish your skin and supply them with nutrition. Choose the right one that is suitable for your skin – in case you have sensitive skin.
  • Tend to any scratch or cut, no matter how tiny, and wipe it with an antiseptic lotion – because if you don’t tend to it, it may get worse.

2. Oral cavity

Teeth play an important role in digestion – you use it to chew food that breaks it down into parts that can be digested through the system. Food is difficult to digest if not chewed properly – which may further cause problems to your body. If you do not care for your teeth and mouth, plaque (remnants of the food you eat) accumulates between your teeth and gums. This causes deterioration of your oral health – one of the causes of cardiovascular problems.

Take care of your teeth with these simple tricks-

  • Brush your teeth twice every day.
  • Use dental floss to remove stubborn particles of plaque.
  • Visit your dentist once every year for a complete oral check-up.
  • Eat lots of crunchy fruits and vegetables like apples, pears, lettuce, etc.

3. Eyes

Your eyes are your window to the external world. But, just like your skin, they are exposed to harmful microorganisms. Not just that, they also have to deal with the sun’s UV rays and the light that emits from your computer/phone screen. The end result is irritation, swelling and infections.

So how do you keep your eyes healthy? You can do it by –

  • Blinking frequently when you are working at your computer or reading on your phone.
  • Eating plenty of orange vegetables like carrots – they contain carotenoids that are good for your eyes.
  • Always wear sunglasses or tinted spectacles when stepping in the sun.
  • Use anti-glare protection for your computer and phone.

4. Ears

The new generation is now accustomed to loud sounds – so much so that from people talking loudly to cars honking continuously, our ears are exposed to a variety of loud sounds. Moreover, dirt accumulates inside your ears and mixes with the sebum to form large chunks of earwax.

Keep your ears clean and tidy with these tips –

  • Clean your ears frequently to remove ear wax – you can also use lukewarm water and cotton swab for the same. Seek professional help if necessary.
  • Avoid using earphones for long periods of time and keep the volume low, i.e don’t listen to loud music for a longer period of time.

5. Lips

Are your lips chapped, cracked or dry? The skin of your lips is two times more fragile than the rest of your body. If your lips feel dry, do not lick them as this will dehydrate them even more. Always use a lip balm to soften and moisten your lips.

Scrub your lips gently with a simple fruit scrub to remove dirt and grime, and improve blood supply.

6. Feet

Your feet perform an important job – it moves your entire weight from one place to another. Any problem with the feet can affect your mobility and create problems in your daily routine. Thus, you need to take great care of your feet.

To keep your feet fine, you must-

  • Wear shoes that are a good fit, a size too large or small may cause problems while walking and thus cause injury to the feet.
  • Give your feet a warm relaxing soak – try to do this every weekend.
  • Clean the underneath of the nails and the skin between the toes.
  • Moisturize every part of your feet, especially the heels and the pads of your toes to prevent breakage and dry skin.

7. Genitals

We hardly spare a thought for the wellbeing of our genitals until an infection sets in and makes life miserable.

The reason the genitals are prone to itching, reddening and infections is that this region remains covered most of the time. There isn’t much air circulation in the area. It is damp and humid – perfect conditions for germs and bacteria to thrive.

What can you do to keep your genitals healthy?

  • Change your underwear frequently. Always wear clean underwear.
  • Wash your genital region with a soft or gentle soap to maintain the delicate pH balance.
  • Use talcum powder along the line of your underwear to keep the area dry.

These are the basic parts of your body that need daily care and attention. Follow the tips mentioned above to bulletproof your body against illnesses and remain healthy and germ-free every day!
