Long Summer Days, Short Productivity Span? Not Anymore!

By Saksham Bhatia +2 more

Introduction:

Sweaty summer days may appear to be a bane to our existence but are they as bad as we make them out to be? Summers can prove to be torturous, especially with the sun beating us down during the long hours of the day. The fatigue, the discomfort and the sweat patches are all real but as they say, life goes on. Letting long summer days impact your productivity can cripple the quality of your life drastically since productivity is directly proportional to your output at work or school.

Tips to enhance productivity during long summer days:

Get your daily dose of Vitamin D all while staying at the top of your game this summer. Summer heat may be unforgiving but you can make the most of these summer days by allowing the natural light from the sun to boost your mood as opposed to letting it wear you down.

As cumbersome as the harsh sun rays of the summer days can be, there are several measures you can adopt to boost your productivity instead of letting it decline. Keep on reading to know how you can improve your efficiency and elevate your seasonal productivity with these quick tips:

Soak in the sun rays – The Vitamin D that your body receives from the sun is known to significantly affect your mood and your brain’s awareness and energy positively. So before you do anything else, make sure to get enough of the early morning sunshine ie when the sun rises. The weather is usually pleasant and refreshing at sunrise.

Stay hydrated – Summers can be taxing and eventually take a toll on your physical and mental health if your body is not taken care of adequately. Ensure that you are drinking plenty of water and other healthy fluids to detoxify and cool off your body’s temperature. Not drinking enough water can be detrimental to your overall well-being and decrease your productivity notably.

Ample ventilation – Allowing your space to get stuffy is just one of the bigger crimes you can commit during summers. By keeping all the doors and windows shut, you are preventing heat from escaping the four walls. Ample ventilation is a necessity during summers and is a major factor contributing to your productivity level. Let the air flow into your room and soothe the burning heat.

Take enough breaks – Working at a stretch during long summer days can be tormenting. Make a to-do list and designate each task at a time with frequent breaks panned across your schedule to take a breather and rejuvenate. Breaks are essential in increasing productivity and summers can be unbelievably overbearing. Taking some time out to pursue something that you find relaxing can help you focus better on your work and get the maximum output.

Let your skin breathe – Wearing too much makeup or too many layers of clothing will only weigh you down when the heat is getting unbearable. Use a light cream on your face, moisturise well, wear soft-hued clothes made of breathable summer-appropriate fabric, avoid dark colours and inhale good vibes only. Making yourself uncomfortable during summers is the worst thing you can put your body through and will only reverse any signs of productivity. Let air into your pores and feel the best that you can to get into your ”go-getter” vibe.

Eat healthy, nutritious and light food – It is extremely easy to fall prey to the sun’s sweltering heat and fall ill. Prevent this by consuming food that is light on your stomach, high on protein and contains all the micronutrients that are required to fuel your body to gear through the day. Adding a good amount of your favourite seasonal fruits and vegetables to your daily diet can show amazing benefits to your health and productivity.

Outdoor time vs indoor time – It’s best to supervise the amount of time you are spending outdoors under direct sunlight. Spending too much time outside during summers can exhaust you leaving you with no energy. Staying out regularly will gradually drain you and diminish your productivity. Stay in areas with cooler temperatures during summers and work from a space that has the optimum temperature to beat the summer heat as much as you can. Reports suggest that humans work better when their environment is comfortable. So make sure that your surroundings relax you instead of causing you inconvenience.

Conclusion:

Exercise measures that bring out the best in you this summer and be a boss in your own right. On days that you don’t feel ”up to it”, give yourself the time to refresh, after all, long summer days are not easy on any of us!
